Localization in Timor: Local Governance Programs Planning in Timor-Leste by Bridging Peoples

Projeitu Mai Munisipiu (to the districts project) was implemented in Timor-Leste with the overall purpose of strengthening human and institutional capacity in local governance and rule of law in Timor-Leste. One component of this project was to implement a suite of activities to build the capacity of village (suku) councils in order to strengthen citizen participation and representation in local governance.

Counterpart International requested Bridging Peoples support to work with the Mai Munisipiu team in designing program activities, taking into account lessons learned from previous programs that also worked to support suku councils. The focus was on finding and developing simple initiatives, that would encourage networking and cross-learning between different suku councils, while also working directly with suku councils to encourage greater transparency with community members.

The project was conducted in 2015.
